2011 Team Mileage Challenge - v2
Current standings (PDF)
The 2011 Team Challenge begins April 17th and runs for 24 weeks (through the last week of September). The first 3 weeks are used to set averages and handicaps, and then the competition continues for the next 21 weeks
It's easy to participate:
1. Form a team consisting of four NWCC members.
2. Ride your bike and report your miles each week.
Rules: (subject to change without notice, that is when David's team is not in first place :-)
- Four person teams made up of NWCC members only.
- The Team Challenge will run for 24 consecutive weeks.
-
The Team Challenge is for bicycle mileage only consisting of:
- Road miles - actual miles ridden
- Off-road miles - 1.5 x actual miles ridden
- Trainer miles - ZERO x actual miles ridden (meaning these don't count.)
- Highwheel bicycle miles - 50 x actual miles ridden (okay, forget this rule!)
Report mileage on a weekly basis.
A week can be Sunday through Saturday or Monday thru Sunday - just be consistent.
In order to help all riders compete on a more equal level, each rider will be given a handicap. Your handicap is determined on the difference of your weekly average from a base of 300. If your average is 160 miles a week, your handicap will be 140. As your average increases you handicap will decrease. If your average decreases, then your handicap will increase. Your handicap is determined by using your previous three weeks mileage totals. Therefore, the first three weeks will be used to set your average. As we begin week #4, you will see your handicap - and the challenge will be off and running. Strategy - always try to improve each week (i.e.. Your mileage plus handicap to equal more than 300). If your average is 160 and your handicap is 140 when you start the week. If you ride 165 miles, your total will be 305 - meaning you've improved. The team with members that consistently improve will move to the top of the stack. Although this is a Team Mileage Challenge, this does not mean that you have to always ride together with your team - or ever for that matter! Just make sure you report your individual mileage to

each week - preferably by Tuesday so that it can be entered into your team's database. The standings will be posted each week showing the Team status as well as the Mileage, Average, and Handicaps of each individual. You can participate in the Team Mileage Challenge as well as the Individual Mileage Challenge - just make sure that you report your weekly mileage to David King AND Frank Thayer each week so that everything gets properly posted in each Challenge. This is a friendly Team competition. The mileage is strictly on the honor system. There are lots of "premes" along the way with great trophies and gift certificates for the top three teams and the end. All you have to do now is get your teams together and send the names in to David King.
Good luck to all.
